The 2 inch ones are for pulling other people out.

As far as tow points, I no longer have my tow hooks on the front (ranchhand replacement bumper that does not have tow hooks but it does have a 2" receiver)

I bought this 6 months ago D-Ring Receiver Hitch but now I see its rated for only 10,000lb (harbor frieght "rated")

and this
Smittybilt 13047B 3/4" Black D-Ring : Amazon.com : Automotive Smittybilt 13047B 3/4" Black D-Ring : Amazon.com : Automotive
which is rated for 4.75 tons (9500lb)

and a Smittybilt CC330 3" x 30' Recovery Strap - 30,000 lb Capacity

Since our trucks are 8000lb plus any resistances of being stuck, the hitch and d ring dont look like they would work.

What do yall reccomend (for both front and back)

one thing ive learned is to never skimp on recovery equipment (shackles/etc)....itll eventually cost you ALOT more =)

that said, a 30,000 lb d-ring has its place...and would work just fine in nearly every situation (including yanking an excursion straight up the side of a cliff).

a good 30k or more recovery strap (not a tow rope) should be in any large trucks regular tool bag...if not for you...to help others.

Cheap way

I bought a receiver hook that is rated at 10K, but if you are pulling something really big out, just use the hitch pin in the 2 inch receiver to hold the loop of the recovery strap

Wow... bringing this back from the dead. This way works yes, but isn't the safest and I wouldn't do it unless I had no other choice.

Using just the hitch pin is a BAD idea. It will bend that pin in no time

If this is something that you plan on doing often invest in some good recovery equipment. Buy a good ****** strap, and a D-ring receiver hitch. Check out ARB products. They make some quality stuff.

I have 5k straps that have a 5:1 safety rating...so they're actually 25k straps. with 12k shackles on each end. not good for jerking/rebound pulls, but great for nice slow pulls

whatever you do, just be careful with the wheeling aspect. I wasn't even wheeling in the picture below. just driving down the beach and she sank to the frame. took three other diesels and a jeep with a winch to get me unstuck. An Excursion is most times heavier than that truck...so beware!

I've got 6 inch wide recovery straps. Rated for a stuck vehicle of 38,000 pounds. Needles to say, I have broke them before. Always buy stuff rated for more than the stuck vehicle, or the vehicle pulling. What ever one is the heaviest.

And how have you determined this?

Check out the videos from ARB on recovery straps. Guess how they recommend, and demonstrate how to attach their straps.....

Jump to the 50 Sec mark.....

I am sure they know NOTHING about safe recoveries.

Pretty much every web site I have read from a manufacturer states the rating should be 3 times the weight of the vehicle.

Soooo, if you have a 38000 lb vehicle, you would need ~100,000 rated strap to be safe. Sounds like multiple Grade 80 or 100 chain would be needed in that situation.

If you are pulling a ~10000lb loaded up Ex, with the 38000, it would be just slightly below the rating, depending on how stuck they were and lots of other conditions.
