My question, there is a tag on the rear end and it says POSI
And that is all it says.So posi yes,
the gear 3.50, What type of rear end grease and or any additives that need to go in it other then the typical 90W gear lube?A FoMoCo rear axle tag would not be marked POSI (or Posi-Traction) because these are GM terms.
Ford: Limited Slip (L/S), but it was not available w/a 9" rear axle in F100's until 1968. 1968/86 9" L/S axle tag with 3.50's reads: 3L50
1959/67 F100: If L/S was ordered, FoMoCo installed Dana rear axles that have an inspection cover, 9" does not. Dana with L/S has two tags, one with an L .. t'other a Ford ID number & ratio.
AXLE code stamped on the Warranty Plate (1963/79-located on the left door face below the latch). If the first digit of the code is a letter: L/S, if it's a number, no L/S.
C6 wasn't available in F100/350's until 1968. 460 wasn't available in F100/350's until 1973, so both have been swapped in, along with L/S rear axle.
L/S: 90 weight gear lube and 4 ounces of "friction modifier."
Both sides do not "pull together." If one side is bogged down, other side takes over. L/S has steel & lined clutch plates, if the lined clutch plates are worn, L/S won't work.
Truck parts catalog pic of 1973/79 9" with L/S (Locking, a confusing word FoMoCo later got rid of) - 4945 & 4947 are steel & lined clutch plates:
I should have mentioned that this tag on the rear end was a brass tag hanging off one of the rear end studs, and that was the info stamped on it. I will clean the rear end and look for I.D. numbers stamped on it. I would totally agree as to the L/S and its functions....Thank you for clearifing what type of additives, Basically it is the same as my Mustang rear ends.
Also, I thank you for the other info, as I had thought, the motor, drive train was from later model ford. I am in the process of identifing motor casting numbers, trans as well and am sure I will be doing a lot of research. Again, Thank you! Hammy
