I think I found it. The Z-bar is the clutch linkage...Right? But what is that support in the drive shaft and how do you lubricate it properly? It sure looks like a spot that needs plenty of lubrication.
This one is new to me. I've got a 68, F-100, 360, 3-speed. I'm thinking the Z-Bar is the support bracket in the rear drive shaft.
Welcome to FTE
Z-bar is another name for the clutch equalizer bar, 7528 in parts catalog pic.
There should be a zerk fitting, but if a rubber plug is in place, remove it, go to an autoparts store and buy a 1/4" straight zerk.
(2) 358979-S are the felt washers that retain the grease, (2) C1AA-7343-A are the nylon pivot bushings, (2) 97474-S are the clips that retain these parts to the pivots.
Thanks Bill but I still can't figure out that support. I went out and had another look. There are 2 drive shafts, 1 runs about 3 ft from the trans and terminates with a bearing and female spline supported to the frame. The 2nd shaft runs to the axle and has a long male spline shaft that runs to this bearing. It has a zerk fitting, I've pumped a lot of grease into the zerk but have naver seen any run out of the bearing. I assume that's how its lubed but I'm not sure.
No pic of the "Driveshaft Center Support" in the 1964/72 truck catalog, so here's a pic from the '73/79 truck catalog.
The center support related parts (4805/4808/4818/4826/4835/4840) are the same: 1961/79 F100/250 & some F350's. FoMoCo sold all these parts as a kit: D9TZ-4800-A
There is no way to grease the 4840 bearing, as it's a sealed unit. But the 4841 slip yoke itself has a zerk fitting (87901-S), pic shows another zerk (87907-S) on the center u-joint.
But, the thing is, are these zerk fittings already present, or are rubber plugs in place instead? It's also possible that all 3 of the u-joints have no place for zerks.
Thanks again Bill, that's the animal. I'll bet that one is hard to find and not cheap, I hope mine holds out for a while. All of my u-joints have zerk's, they're all pretty tight so they've probably been replaced once or more.
