I truly believe that the main reason they did push the 6.0 was because of the hp difference between the 7.3 vs the Cummins and Duracrap.
Yeah, they should have done a little more testing than they did. The techs in our shop tell me the problem started when Ford insisted on using Ford injectors at the last minute in place of the Navistar injectors. Navistar objected, stating that the engine hadn't been tested with Ford's injectors. Ford said we don't care, and we want to save a couple bucks. I've also heard that the EPA told Ford that the 7.3 no longer met emission standards last summer, and that they had to stop installing the engine in S/Ds NOW. Rather than have a period of time with NO diesel to offer, Ford rushed the 6.0 to market. Whatever the reason, I really wish Ford had considered the ramifications of their decision a little more carefully than they did. Their priorities, obviously, were: 1) profit, 2) sales and market share, and 3), the customer. I hate to say it, but Chevy and Dodge are having a field day with this. Yes, Ford is stepping up to the plate NOW, but for a lot of customers it's too little, too late. When somebody plunks down 40-50 large for a new truck, you'd better take care of them from day one. And that applies no matter WHAT company built the truck.

1956 Mark II,
The Diesel Dude said on this forum on another thread that the International version and Ford version of the 6.0L use the same injectors. I don't know who but I don't think it is a Ford injector. I believe it to be made by Siemens. I am sure someone will correct me if this is wrong. Is the 7.3 still not being used in the E350 van?

Tenneseepowerstroke is correct. There are no Ford injectors, there are no Navistar injectors, the injectors are a Navistar design manufactured by Siemens.

This whole thing is a screw up by everyone involved. Navistar screwed up by not doing their homework on this new injector design. They've been working on it for several years so there is no excuse, in my opinion (other than greed by those at the top) for not getting it right the first time, and that is especially true when one considers the learning curve of the first generation HUEI injectors. If they had spent as much time stratigizing on their R&D as they did screwing the union people out of a few bucks on the wage and benefit package, we wouldn't be in this fix.
Ford screwed up by believing anything that the Navistar execs told them and by not offering both engines for the first 2 or 3 years of 6.0L production. They could have manufactured 6.0L powered trucks in Louisville and 7.3L powered trucks in Mexico. And I have it on good authority that the 7.3L engine is capable of passing exhaust emissions standards until 2005 (they are still using it unintercooled in the E-Series vans). If that is an incorrect statement, prove it by showing me the numbers.

Dman01, mark it on the calender!!

I am sure we'll have some more go 'rounds in the future. Heh Heh!

The Diesel Dude is right, 7.3 is still emission legal until at least 2005. I don't know what Ford will do after that, but if they want to put the 6.0 in the E-series, they are gonna have to do a major redesign because the 6.0 as it is now will not fit. It is to wide, I looked at a brand new F-350 with a 6.0 and then my brothers '01 with a 7.3, and the 6.0 is wider.

Well don't look now, but they are doing it in '04. Late availability of the E-350 with the 6.0. Full power too.
