hello all, ive swapped a 91 7.3 into my 82 f250, swap went well runs great but noticed something the other day that had me concerned. first of all im still in the process of fixing my temp gauge so I cant be exactly sure if theres an issue or not, whats happening is after running for a while the heater hoses, both of them are scorching hot but the upper and lower hoses are both cool maybe slighty warm. is this normal, im I just overly concerned, I just don't want to ruin my engine especially since I just spent quite a lot of money putting new gaskets and head studding it for future upgrades. please let me know what yall think, thanks for looking.
When "mostly" warmed up, the coolant in the engine will be 180-200 and if the thermostat hasnt fully opened yet the radiator will be cool. The heater hoses continually circulate so they will be as warm as the inside of the engine. Hope that makes sense. Sounds normal to me, with the exception that your T-stat isnt opening all the way and youre overheating. Does the gauge indicate a normal temps?
not sure I need to find the break in the wiring so the temp gauge isn't currently working. I think im gonna pull the t stat and replace it with a motorcraft one just for good measure, its the one thing I didn't check before I swapped it.
