Motor mounts?

I purchased a Trans dapt universal motor mount with pads. There is about an 1/8 gap on each side of mount where bolts go through. Seems like a lot of play in the mounts. What size and grade bolts are normally used, and does it require a bushing to get rid of the gaps? I`m sure some of the users here have a similar set up and any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Oscar

Well, how wide are the mounting holes and what size bolts are you trying to use? As far as grade, most definitely grade 8. Nothing less.

The pipe is about 2" wide and the inside of the mount is about 2 1/4 inches. The bolt looks like a 1/2 x 3 bolt will work. I just assumed everything would be a tighter fit.

That gap is normal for most motor mount set-ups like that. Like said grade 8 for the frame bolts but you only need grade 5 for the through bolt on the mount. Rubber will fail before the bolt.

The frame bolts came with the kit. The motor bolts do not. I guess you just keep tightening until you squeeze the gap out of the mount tabs.

Thanks,

Oscar

Oscar,
As long as the bolt is tightened against the motor mount, that is all that is required, you do not need to tighten to eliminate the gap. It is only a shear load from engine torque.

Guess you could always put a flat washer in there if it bothers you enough.
