Storage capacity

The BonusBuilts are pretty limited in what you can carry in the cab, and I needed something that I could securely stow stuff out in the bed and be shielded from the weather. I was looking at tool boxes, and Doc saw this one at Lowe's, sent me the info. It is BIG! and cheap! (Relatively) $250. Not every Lowe's carries this model (Lowes item #39972) but I found it in stock 100 miles away. Tractor Supply has one about 80% the size for an even $200. Fits like a glove!

Nice, now change that Kobalt tag out for a Ford tag and you will get people scratching their heads, and it would look cool.

For my flatbed (I'm now looking out MANY years into the future) I'm thinking about a box under the bed between the cab and real wheels for a toolbox and maybe a cooler.

nice, ross. did you bolt it in? i'm using a free plastic one, wheels/handle and all. i frequently take it out to carry 4x8 mat'l, i'd love to have a way to float a storage box about 6" above the box and leave the full 4' to slide plywood under it. it would be easy if i drilled holes in the box sides, but i'd like to avoid that too.

Dick, you can see that thanks to the PO, there are plenty of holes in the side of the bed to choose from! I will be bolting it down, another of Doc's good ideas, I'll use the bed strip bolts. It is just at an inch narrower than the bed's inside width, so it would be easy to cut some 1/2" spacers to mount from the sides. I think I'd want to reinforce it tho, the large size is the same metal as the smaller ones, and really could stand to have some channels under it to reinforce the bottom. Sitting on the bed it's not a problem.

Do you have a picture of your tonneu cover handy? I'd be interested in seeing it.

Ross,
Looks good.

I have a length of rubber from a conveyor on an old rock crusher. It would make a decent isolation pad under that box. If you want to come cut a chunk let me know

Thanks for the offer, Bobby, but I had some of that tape they use on camper shells.

Since this morning, I decided I needed to think about my spare. Can't put it in the stock location due to dual exhaust. So in front of the box seemed the best alternative. One thing led to another and I ended up with what's below. Not as clean looking as just the box, but it's functional.

How about this to cover up that Kobalt?

I hadn't noticed all those holes until you mentioned it. What was he doing???

I'm all about functional. Both configurations limit the full use of the bed. Do you haul much with it? Of course the box is probably used way more than any hauling you might do. The spare is always a bearcat to deal with.

He did that on BOTH sides! He was trying to fit a spare mount on the outside of the bed... Duh... if it won't fit on one side, it ain't going to fit on the other.

These are both relatively easy to remove. I do use the truck for hauling, my other truck has a shell on it and that limits some type of loads. The box in particular won't normally be there, but for trips, possible camping, even when I have something I don't want in the cab for security reasons, it will be useful. I hate parking with something in the bed when out shopping, for example.
