abs problem
I tried this question under Excursion but after no takers there, I thought I would try here since the abs system is the same as far as I know. A while back as I was driving along the abs light suddenly came on, lost the speedo and no cruise. I've checked the sensors, the wiring to the sensors and replaced the whole abs unit. Sometimes when the truck gets wet while driving the abs light will blink and the speedo will work for a few seconds till the light blinks again and the needle drops again. That will repeat for a while and then back to nothing. Any help would be appreciated.

If you had an ABS light and the speedometer went nuts, it is a VSS sensor problem (speed sensor in the rear end.) In addition to checking and cleaning your sensor, check all the connectors and wiring. Also, it may check out OK when dry, but you mention you have problems when it gets wet. Real strong indicator that you do have a failing sensor.

What puzzles me is that the only time the speedo works at all (though it's only for seconds at a time) is when things get wet. The other thing is that a few months before this all happened I noticed that the wiring to the rear sensor had been rubbed through most of the way and I reconnected that and it worked fine after that.
