guy brought me a truck to check out. it runs bad intermitent. had code 1316 so he changed idm and valve cover gaskets. i finally got it to mess up. did buzz test and came up with 1294 code. checked wires and plugs. ohmed out common wire for injectors. everything checks good. i checked wires from valve cover to idm. im not sure what else it could be. it will run for 2 days then mess up for maybe 10 miles then clear up and run good for another couple days.its an early 99 with 246k on it. maybe a ground? any help will be good. thanks
He replaced the IDM and valve cover gaskets? What about the harness under the valve cover? If he's got a burnt pin on the connector inside the valve cover, he may have ruined the new gaskets too.
Its like it runs on 5 or 6 cyclinders. Will only run 35 mph on the floor. And he changed gaskets and wiring undet vc. Wonder if a injector coil pack can be intermittent?
I have had similar issues with a '01 7.3 in f550.In the past 12yrs I had to replace the wiring harness inside the valve covers for the injecters 2 times. Not a surprise with the mileage & the fact theres alot of heat inside there & the wires are very thin & lose their continuity...
I can't remember the code but know it was a hard one to find in the PCM...
If you've done that & it didn't fix the problem,,,,,You may want to do a oil pressure test at the ICP sensor location. It could be a sign that either the ICP REGULATOR or the HIGH PRESSURE OIL PUMP are starting to go bad.The high pressure oil pump has basicly everything to do with pressuring the injectors......
That problem won't put a direct code in the system sence it's mechanical but could cause a code to other systems that depend on the pump working right....
If that turns out to be your problem I'd recommend replacing all parts at the sametime,,,,HIGH PRESSURE PUMP,,,ICP REGULATOR,,,ICP SENSOR...
Can be pricey but I did find rebuilt pump & regulator on the internet from a good supplier for less than half the cost of new & with the same 1yr warranty as new..Still working good
