Oil Change now no boost?

So, today I changed my oil and i switched from Rotella 15w40 to Rotella 10w30. The truck ran amazing driving to town (roughly 18 miles) the oil was around 188 and coolant at 184. 3psi of boost at 65 and roughly 17 mpg. On the way home however, i noticed the truck had a slight loss of power but not much. After realizing that I noticed i was only pushing 1psi of boost, I got on it a bit and still only 1psi. I can hear the turbo still, but when im accelerating i just hear the motor and no turbo until im cruising, or decelerating. Still managed 16mpg... Any ideas? Thanks in advance everyone!

Check your CAC boots, especially the 45* coming off the turbo. They tend to rip, even under the clamp where you can't see.

Not sure what year you have,if its a 05 with plastic CAC cold side pipe, look for cracks/damage.

Also check VGT wire harness and plug for damage.

Check exhaust up-pipe and y-pipe flex joints for cracks.

Check for codes.

These are the easiest to check before running a OBDII diagnostic.

no codes except the ones for the EGR. its an 03, sorry i should have specified. I assume that a small tear wouldnt make the same sound as the CAC boots blowing off? haha thanks for the info!

Edge insight CS. Had a problem once before where it wasnt reading boost but the truck sounded normal so i reset it and it worked fine. My truck sounds noticeably different this time though and has a hard time getting to highway speeds and maintaining speed up hill.

SO this morning I checked all the CAC boots and lines. all are attached and have no cracks. Checked the MAP sensor, it is still hooked up and clean. also checked baro pressure which was at 13.9psi and MAP pressure was at 13psi. the wire harness at the VGT was connected and clean with no damage

I took all the CAC lines and boots off and found a quarter inch tear on the bottom side connecting to the turbo under the clamp. I assume that this tear releases enough air for it to not build boost? any idea how much ford charges to replace all 4? or should i just go after market? riffraff diesel has a nice kit for $125, anyone used them?

I believe the Riff Raff ones are what everyone Goes to

You can get a Temp Boot from Home depot Rubber Plumbing Connector

A Small hole will do it

Its an easy repair IDK how much Ford would be

If he can get all 4 from Riff Raff for 125, Ford won't beat that. Make sure to use new clamps.

How did you measure all if those temp and psi readings? I know it is with a guage, but is it a dedicated guage or did you take individual readings? I don't think I am asking the right way...do you have a computer hooked to your truck where you can get all of this data?

I have a friend stationed up there at Minot...he is a Major, something to do with navigation....winder if you know him...maybe I'll PM his name to you.

Ford boots are around $65 a piece, so $125 for all of them is good if comparable or better material.

There are several OBDII monitor on the market. ScangaugeII, Edge Insight CS/CTS, DashBoss for iPad/Itouch/iPhone, Torque for Androind based phones/tablets, and Autoenginuity for PC. There are more on the market, but those are the popular ones for most truck owners.

After that, you have the more expensive snap-on, IDS, ect, ect.
