you got it, Johnny. Pulled 2 other turbos, rebuilt them, installed gaskets in the collector, on one truck, and both of them have no problem, hell the one spools even more now.
The ps connector at hot side pipe,...taken care of. Have the insulation there for that reason, rest of it been deleted.
member "stinson-108" replaced his uppies and when he pulled the collector apart, the gaskets fell apart, with NO sign of leak/soot anywhere...so, that gots me think'n.
BIGORANGE....nope, havnt found the cure yet to this problem....however, with a new IPR, i DID notice a slight 1-2psi increase and it gets there quicker, but no where near, what it was, prior to turbo going boom.
I wired mine open didn't delete it. I kept thinking my up pipes were leaking but can't see or hear anywhere it is leaking.
Not wanting to overlook anything, EBPV control arm is on the bottom and IIRC it moves toward the passenger side when closing (hissing and heating). So... you wired it to stay toward the driver side, assuming my memory is clinging to the ledge by its fingernails.
The wastegate is on top and I think I adjusted it with pressurized air... so it bleeds boost when the arm swings to the passenger side.
Sorry I was gone for a bit there everyone. Busy drivin half way across the state and back today. Anyways I'm going to try a couple things I got from you all tomorrow and let you know if anything gets fixed! Thanks everyone talk at ya tomorrow!
They said need a new turbo. There is a slight catch when you spin the compressor wheel and the turbine they said looks like the gap on one side between the wheel and housing is bigger on one side then the other but it doesn't touch. Got a new turbo today gonna put it on today if it ever stops raining!! Before I do though was thinking about pulling the uppipes and making sure there is no leak again. Is there a gasket I can get from somewhere for the stock uppipes that anyone knows of?? Thanks again everyone!
IIRC, it's the same gasket as a Chevy 350. Otherwise you just go in to your local parts store and eyeball a match. Remember that it needs to crush a little bit.
They should "fall apart" when you pull them off. What you need to look for is black streaking up/down the pipes from the ends, which will indicate how severe the leak was.
Did they tell you about rebuilding your turbo for less than $100, or did they sell you a new one?
Had already rebuilt it. They told me they could go through it but it may be a couple hours labor, at 110 bucks an hour, and they may go through it and tell me I need a new one anyways.
Honestly, rebuilding a turbo is less than an hours work. Maybe right at an hour if taking your time. Oh well. At least you have peace of mind with a new one.
