Front axle seals

It looks like the outer seals on my front axle have had it... Are these reasonably straight forward to change? Do the CV shafts have to come out or can they just be moved aside? Does the entire axle housing need to be dropped? Thanks. 06 navigator

Yes
Moved aside
No

You will need an axle shaft slide hammer puller to pop the axles out of the housing. They are held in by a spring retainer c-clip on the end of the axle. It is recommended to replace these c-clips before reinstalling the axles, but that's your call.
