I'd like to replace the TP sensor in my '96 aerostar 3.0 auto w/OD. I think the eratic tranny/OD shifting problem may be due to a faulty sensor.
My question is; would a new sensor have to be adjusted or simply installed. If it does need adjustment, can somone point me in the right direction to find out how.
Please let me know what you come up with after changing the TPS. My Transmission in my 1992 is also doing similar things on a grade or in certian other conditions. It does not slip even with the milage it has on it. I am thinking that I may have a TPS gone bad as well.
I have not doen it so I don't know about an adjustment...

The TPS is basically a variable resistance reostat that reports throttle position based on the degree of resistance present at a given position. As such, there is no adjustment necessary or that can be done. Simply bolt the new one in place.
Replaced the sensor and no erratic shifting. Man, I was sweating the cost of a new transmission (which every transmission shop said I would probably need).
The screws are a pain to get to. I ended up having to cut them off. I replaced the with hex head screws so if I had to take if off again it would be much easier. I should have removed the upper rad hose to get to them. No adjustment needed for the TPS on this vehicle.
