ive just picked up my new toy,its a 72 F250 4x4.its got a freshly rebuilt FE,i was told that it was a 390,however,the casting #'s have me confused. The block has C7ME-A,which Steve Christs FE book lists as either a 67-70 428 or a 330MD FT engine, upon further study of both the book and looking at the engine,it seems that the 330 must use FT heads, the heads have a casting # of C4AE-6090G,which have similar no.'s to either 64-65 352,390 heads and many of the heads with 6090 no.'s are listed as hi perf heads? Ive checked, and determined that its got 8 bolt FE pattern exhaust, and not the FT pattern,so between the head casting, and the exh.bolting,i think its likely not an FT.finally its got a Ford intake,4Bbl.with the numbers 3L22, then C4SE-9425A. of course the VIN plate lists a transmission code of "G" which my chiltons shows as C4 auto, and ive got an NP435,its got camper special badging, yet its 4WD,ands its got a div, mounted NP205 rather than a Dana24,so im thing that Dr Frankenstein had a hand in its building, any Number gurus have any answers? thanks ahead of time for any info!
The only way to tell is to measure the stroke. 3.5" storke is a 360, 3.75 is a 390, and i can't remember the other stroke length. It is in the FAQ section at the top of the page.
