new here, just bought a 81 f 100 stepside shortbed, the breather is missing and im tryin to find out where some vacuum lines go, can any body tell me where the vacuum advance hose connects to? also there is an egr something or other under the carb, sticks out like a sore thumb and has a round thing on the end, that has a place for a vacuum line, I don't know where that goes either! you can see im a highly technical type of guy and cant tell the difference tween a do hickey and a whatchamacallit! any help yall can give to point me in the right direction will be sorely appreciated! and no, the sticker that shows the vacuum routing is not on the truck, and even if it was I wouldn't have the faintest clue as to what all the abbreaviations would mean im 56 years old and technology has passed me by and I bought this truck so I could try to keep it on the road without needin a computer!! I live in east texas, duh! and am an admin on another forum , dealing with blackpowder guns and such, im lookin foreward to hearin from some of you more experienced guys and learn some stuff bout this ol truck im drivin now! thanx in advance, mike

I was just about to ask what engine, but you beat me to it. Unfortunately I don't know much about the 300, so can't answer the question specifically. However, generically the vacuum advance typically goes to ported vacuum, meaning a vacuum source that does have vacuum at idle but does just above idle. But mi sure someone will be along shortly with one of the diagrams to help you out.

However, could you help me by using capital letters to start sentences, periods to end them, etc? I'm older than you and typically skip posts I can't easily read as there are other people needing help so I spend my time where I can easily understand the issues. Thanks in advance!

seems to me you read my post fine, I don't need an English lesson and im a grown man not a kid in school, if yer the teacher or hall moniter here just give me an f, cause I think its a little snooty to require folks to use proper punctuation, when anybody can easily understand the English language, without bein graded on it, and anybody who cant, I wouldnt want their advice no how sheesh, yall need to grow up a little round here! really? uae capitols , what kinda place is this? real folks or high falutin snooty pootys? by the way, ya might wanna use a spell checker on yer own stuff first!

so that makes two of us have em then don't it? I guess your insinuation is that you could help me, but you wont because I don't think one grown man should tell another that he should use capitalization and punctuation to be understood when nobody else in the world among many thousands of posts I have made on other forums have any trouble understanding me? seems more like a case of stiff upper lip instead of willingness to communicate and be helpful,
manners? maybe some one who says they would rather help someone who can type better and use their time helping folks who use capitols only, should learn some manners first or maybe someone who will be like millions of other sheeple in this country and bow down to beg for help would be more deserving? my forum is not quite as big as this one, but in our nich we are rather large, we welcome people and treat them with dignity and respect, we don't feel like if they aren't a good typer or speller they don't deserve our help or time, I type with one finger and most days I feel lucky just to get my message across, and as long as I understand what someone is saying back to me, I don't tell them what they should do, if I don't understand them ill tell them so seems like some manners could be used around here as well, two replies and both of them condemning, so the man unsubscribed from me so what? if no one here is willing to help, ill just find another place to seek the info I need and yall can walk around like the jalepeno on a stick that makes me laugh on tv

wish i could help you out, but unfortunately, the emissions is one of the first things to go on my trucks. the vacuum advance hose usually hooks to a vacuum port on the carb, not on the intake. it's possible that it may be hooked to a ported switch that won't allow vacuum to pass until the engine is up to temp. not sure when ford quit using that system though. if that's the case, it can be bypassed and hooked directly to the carb port. sorry for not being much help, but just had to reply. notice i didn't capitalize anything either? i can read and understand your posts just fine. i don't know why some people have to be that way. happens all the time here.

thanx so much for your reply, its now hooked to a vacuum port on the carb, but with the breather missing and several things disconnected I didn't know for sure if it was supposed to be there or on the intake or what why I turned here for help in the first place is the truck seems to run ok, but someone before me took the stock breather off, and of course I want it tobe hooked up right, and the price of gas goin up, I want it to be as efficient as I can get it
I have read in other posts here, thatit is the most economical when utilizing the egr and stock type breather, so I just tryin to figure out where everything ought to go, the inspection sticker went out last month and of course they wont pass it with the little chrome breather some kid put on it, so I am diligently searching for a stock one..

It's a little late, but the '81 in my sig. had all the factory emissions stuff on it when I bought it. It made the trip from southern Colorado to central WI and averaged approx 25-27 mpg. I was really amazed, but then found out it had 2.73 gears in it, so that helped.
I looked for even a simple vacuum diagram and had no luck for that specific year and engine combo. Not even my repair manuals have that specific info.

so do you still have all the emissions stuff hooked up? looks like the only thing missing on mine is the smog pump and the breather if I could get 25-27 mpg outta mine, id be more than happy to change the gears!! ive spent several hours on the internet trying to find a simple vacuum routing diagram for thyis truck, but no luck as yet! wish someone on here who still had the sticker would take a pic and post it, if they even came with the sticker! I aint found anyone yet who has one
