During a recent trip which wasn't that long of one 400 miles round trip it got me thinking about an air ride system like those used in long haul semi's. Well I did some looking around and found a company that sells what looks to be a air ride bracket that fits under our (most of our) seats. So I asked for a quote and the price isn't that bad. The cost for the driver and passenger side is $273.45 each plus shipping (shipping to my zip was 75.00 to a commercial dock). But it looks like a good option for those leaf springs. Just thought I would share. Link Below
if you want to know how bad the ride will be, try to find someone with a F-650 or F750 to take a ride in.
after 5 minutes you will forget about an air ride seat in your superduty unless you are under 4 foot tall and weigh less than 100 lbs.
1st off, that suspension WILL NOT work with the factory seat. you must have the National seat to go with it plus a compressor.
2nd, I've been using this exact setup in my 550 for the last 6 yrs and over 100K miles.
I'm 6 ft tall and 200 lbs and at times you will bottom out but the ride is much better than without the air ride.
I've often wondered if someone could swap out the rear cab mounts for a couple of air bags and mount a hinge up front somewhere. Wouldn't be quite that simple, buts its intrigued me none the less.
an air ride cab would help make an air ride seat work much better in the superduty trucks.
having the seat hit the floor or your head hit the roof on rough roads is a real pain. when i have to run one of these trucks i just let all the air out of the seat and ride on the floor.
that is why i do not recommend air ride seats in pickups.
I appreciate all the feed back I was hoping that they would work with the original seats. I might contact them to ruffle their feathers about it some. As for the compressor that is in the works now anyways cause I am always in need of air so its going in the spare tire location. If I do get them I will keep you guys updated.
look for a non air hydraulic seat out of an older 70's, 80's, or 90's F-series truck. they will give you movement but nor as much as the air ride.
they use a hydraulic piston like a shock absorber instead of an air bag.
a Bostrom T series 905 seat may work, it has a built in compressor, and a low profile with only a 2.75 inch ride zone
or the viking T-bar, a mechanical seat with a 4 inch ride zone.
you can find them here: http://www.taterdog.com/brian/Docume...%20Catalog.pdf
the T series 905 seats are on pages 20, 21, 22, and 23.
and the Viking T-bar is on page 28
