drain on battery??

update

Wow. not good. well after testing all the fuses it was determined that the alt. prolly was bad. fuses all tested good. pulled alt took it in had tested. they said it was bad bought new one got it put on hooked up the wifes truck nothon wouldnt crank at all. went back bought a starter.solenoid put on tried to jump wouldnt crank cables.were red hot trying to unhook from the wifes trk. ard was really arkin. so im relativly sure i just fried some sh t im just not sure what.i really need to.get this thing goin so i can start haulin cuttin wood. any ideas thanks

Sounds to me like you hooked up either the battery or the jumper cables incorrectly; I'd guess you've now fried one or more of the fusible links over at the starter relay area, give 'em a tug and see if they come apart.

If your cables are getting hot they could be deteriorated. Like I said earlier in this thread, replace your cables. There is nothing as sweet as a working ignition system. If you have a good battery, good alternator and good starter and solenoid, the only thing left are the cables and ignition switch. Cables ALWAYS look good from the outside but if you rip off the insulation they are deteriorated. Bad cable will cause excessive heat buildup across the remaining good copper strands. The excessive heat will quickly deteriorate what is left of the cable.
