What you found was the engineering number for the casting. It's not the date code. All that shows is the engineering took place in 1980 and paid for by the full size car line. All you really know from that is it's not older than 1980, but it can be several years newer, until the next major engineering change. You need to look for another series of numbers nearby that may resemble a tag screwed on, but cast into the iron. It should read something like 3D27 or 2F9, etc. That will give you the last number of the year it was cast, a month code and the day of casting. Find that and let us know what you have. Here's a couple examples and possible locations.
