Okay all here's the deal and pray someone can give me a ballpark answer. 2004 Ford F250 12" lift on 40" tires. Running Edge Programmer w/ attitude, AFE Stage II intake, Magna Flow 4.5 or 5" exhaust (on it when I bought it). I recently re-geared the truck and dumped the 3.73 and when 4.56. I have a boat that weights around 4K, and it struggles to go 55 mph. My temps have been slowely climbing, however so are the OAT's Right now driving empty:
Coolant-188-192
Oil-200-205
EGT-800-900 (65 mph)
Boost 4-6 lbs (65 mph)
OAT-100-110 degrees
Towing up a hill 6.5 grade
Coolant -216-220
Oil-225-230
EGT-1150-1250
Boost-10-12lbs (i dont push it any harder still got stock studs)
OAT-110-125 degrees
Once I go down the hill the big a$$ hills I climb the temps drop to middle of the road between empty and climbing the hills. Are these normal temps or signs of $$$$$ to come? Any help is great.
The Edge programmer has been know to take out the tranny.....MANY times! And with that height and rear ratio, towing will be a chore! Also the AFE intake has also been known to dust the turbo. The stock intake can not be beat.
The temps aren't bad for what you're doing with the truck. Actually I think they're pretty dang good. I am concerned about only running 55 mph. Have you checked your fuel pressure? You'll have to have a manual gauge for that. The truck won't defuel until oil temps reach 254 and you're not close to that.
You should have know problem with 4.56 gears. You must have a problem. Fuel pressure, turbo something. 40 inch tires are big but only 4K boat trailer should be know problem. Whats your boost and fuel pressure? How about your EGR valve, mitt have to clean it as well.
Your EGT's are a little high for unloaded cruising. Are you using tow/haul? What are your RPM's when climbing with the boat? Check for induction/exhaust leaks. You may have a turbo getting ready to go.
All the temps look fine to me. Would be a little worried about the tuner. Some Edge tuners are fine. The shift on the fly ones seem to be the ones that give problems.
Thanks for the all the replies and will try to answer some of the questions. One thing I will say about the turbo is under heavy load I.E towing up hill the waste gate almost sounds like it is fluttering open and closing, but if I lay off a little bit it goes away. I have never checked or replaced the fuel filter, and never checked the PSI readings on it. Not sure what an ICP is, so if someone could help a noob out on that one. As far as driving around i dont use tow/haul and only use it going up hills and it works well I can feel the torque converter lock it and makes power, just afraid with the 4R100 to power through it and slip the tranny. As far as towing up a hill I am about 1600-2000 Rpm but it bogs down to about 35 at best but these are some serious hills, little small hills I can keep it around 45-50 mph at 2K RPM and the temps rise a little but not out of control. Also, not sure if this makes a difference but I have only heard my fan come on once or twice while towing but when it comes on the temps drop very quickly. Hopefully this helps you all help me a little cause with summer here, looking at towing my boat more and more this year with average trips being 300+ miles one way, also I operate at around 2500-6000 feet altitude.
Missed one post, sorry. I clean the EGR valve every oil change and do the O-Rings annually or as needed. It looks okay in there when I clean it and it comes out black but not clogged. I have not noticed a drop in coolant but the last time i checked it there was what looked like a little wet spot in the bottem under the EGR valve, but not positive could just be a clean spot in there. For boost towing I am sure I could push 20lbs if I wanted to, but I never go over 12lbs to be safe. My buddy says to push it hard up the hill, and accept the temps since they are short bursts but some of these hills are 15 miles long.
Sorry for the confusion, yes it's the 6.0, I have been sorely miss informed by a friend of mine about certain things it seems. I just changed the differential fluid after doing the gears and put Royal Purple 75w-140 in which is what I got from some people on here to run. Seems to be running a bit better, on acceleration maybe a little less engine load while cruising. But I don't trust this truck at all just expecting to leave a stop sign and the motor to pop, are there any fixes (Cali smog legal) without pulling the cab to fix this stuff?
