I have looked over the posts on the Edge Evolution and still can't make up my mind. Will be heading to South Florida in January with a 40 ft toyhauler. My brother pulls it with a 02 F250 4x4 PSD. His is all stock with no extra gauges or anything. My truck is a 99 F350 DRW CC PSD and I think I need to at least have a pyrometer and maybe a boost gauge. Don't feel the need for any more power right now ( haven't pulled the 5'er yet though) but would like more fuel economy (as would most). The stock trans gauge seems to work fine.

The options that I can think of.

1. DP tuner Edge unit. >$600.00
2. Edge off Ebay < $500.00
3. Pyrometer and Boost guages on ebay < $300.00

I have 410 gears and have just gotten over the 15mpg mark. Did the 6637, Royal Purple differential lube and keep the tach right at the 2000 rpm mark most of the time.

Thanks for your imput.

I tow a raptor 3018TT. I took it to myrtle beach this past spring with 4 harleys in it. I upgraded my truck with a 4" ss exhaust, DP Tuner 9(the best), valve body, and a AIS intake. You should have guages also. Towing that big of a toy hauler im sure the egt's were high and tranny temp was up there. I plan on putting in a 6.0 tranny cooler in the spring to keep the temps down also. That guage in the dash is just a waste. hope this helps... Jeff

Welcome to FTE Lappir.
I tow a Cedar Creek 36RLTS, 14,000lb with a F550 equipped with 4.88 axle. Definatly has the gears for powering up the hills out west.
Reason I state this is because I cannot tow with anything other than stock tuning or the EGT gets over 1300 on the hills and I have to back out of the throttle. Plus I lose 1.5 mpg using the Tow/Haul tune. Stock does much better and only a little less power.
What I've done to my truck is improve the fuel supply to the engine in many ways.
Installed a 5" exhaust, Ford AIS air intake, Boost, Pyro guages.
Truck is a 4x4 six speed stick shift dually that weighs 10,000lb, and with the trailer the whole rig is 24k.

In a nutshell, I really recommend against installing that tuner without at the very least getting some gauges to monitor the exhaust gas temperature. It can skyrocket to well above the melting point of aluminum, which is what your pistons are made of.

High EGTs are no big deal for very short runs like a dragstrip, or a freeway on ramp.
But a long sustained pull up a hill with the EGT at 1200 degrees will crack a piston and that will make for a very expensive vacation.
Just ask FN74! He lost a piston 500 miles from home and it started blowing out everywhere and had to use 6 gallons of oil to make it another 400 miles to within range of his AAA card. Then it was towed the rest of the way home.

Ok, I guess earlier this morning I hadn't had enough coffee and wasn't stating my question well.

I am looking at the Edge Evolution with the gauges included in the package. At some point I will purchase a DP tune. Haven't decided if I want to spend the extra on it now or wait until I have pulled the rig and know what I want for sure. I don't like the A pillar look and I haven't looked at enough above the mirror sets but don't think I would like that either . That leaves me with an under the dash mount again not my favorite. I like the look of the Evolution and it includes all the info I want. Just haven't heard many people rave about it, like they do the DP Tune.

Thanks again for the responses

Get the EVO from Jody at DP he can put his tunes on it look here http://www.shop.dp-tuner.com/product.sc?productId=11&categoryId=6
all you need in one nice package, and you can choose your tunes (up to 3) see the drop down menus.

EDIT: please excuse my rudeness, WELCOME TO FTE.

I agree I would get the EVO from Jody at DP tuner, then you can have everything you want in one package. The only downside is it limits you to 3 tunes, but that should be enough for most. I agree I don't like the A pilar mount either, blocks the vision to much for me. I think I'm gonna go with the over the mirror mounts when I add a tuner, hopefully I'll have the $800 I need saved around the first of the year.

Did I say thank you for the previous replies?? If not THANKS,

Finally hooked up to the toy hauler. My brother was impressed with how nice my truck looked in front of his 5'er. Hardly settled any when the jacks were lifted. Plugged in the cord and everything worked. Lights came on, turn signals worked and the brakes did their thing. Started down the road and was a little supprised at how much you have to push on the go pedal to get moving. We should have taken the extra 3 miles to the local scale to see how much everything weighed but I didn't think of it till we had unhooked and and leveled everything again. Sooooo anyway, thinking about how things looked with the 1000+ mile trip. I have had a high of 16.5 mpg keeping the revs below 2000 rpm empty, then 15.28 with same revs and 1000 lbs of motorcycle and 5th wheel hitch in the back. Dropped all the way to 12.6 after filling, pulling the 5'er for about 10 miles in a stiff wind then returning the 500 miles home against the wind and the revs at 2250 to get 70mph and for everyone to not pass me. I'm closer to ordering the Edge from DP but still have reservations. Is there anyone within 250 miles of Kansas that has this?

Also in looking around the truck it appears that I have a 4" stainless steel exhaust, we were under looking at the hitch mounts and my little air bags and found my exhaust larger and the muffler smaller than the 2002. He still says he gets 18mpg all the time (empty), don't know if I should believe him or not.

Thanks in advance for additional information
