is there a how to on adjusting door strike on 53 f100 ?? and also is the small gear on the latch suppose to be real loose ?? these look like new but the gear( clog) is real loose
If you haven't already done so, I would recommend getting a Shop Manual. It has all sorts of technical information - as well as instructions for the type of adjustment you are after. Might be worth a look.
Can't be of too much help with your question, unfortunately. I'm hoping the bump will get you a better response.
If you have the funds and some very minor fab ability I strongly advocate that you install a pair of bearclaw latches such as MidFifty sells. Your door's, or even your, life is on the line here. They are that much better.
The manual is priceless and this forum has posts which cover it extensively too. Perhaps a search of "door star wheel adjust" would do the trick.
BTW: if you don't have a good "hand impact driver," get one on order. The screws that hold the striker plate are, and must be, downright tight.

Reason: Typing frenzy.
looks like they both ( latch and striker) have been changed,, but like i said the little gear on the latch seems to be real loose ,, i would think it should be that loose , the striker looks to be new also , i have had them both loose and adjusted them both , the drive side works great but sometimes it locks for some reason lol i have to open it from the inside and turn the small gear once than after that it will work great until the next time it locks ,, i do know about how lock the door by pushing down on the handle and i am not doing that
It sounds like your door mechanism is worn. I do not think that this is an adjustable piece. With it being very loose, it will be very difficult to get the door adjusted. I seriously propose that you buy a manual to get visual clues on this adjustment process. Here is my favorite source: Search or if you prefer: vintageford.com
