Help removing & installing PCV Valve

Hello All,

I am trying to remove my PCV valve from my 2002 F350 5.4l V8 and having some troubles.

First, the valve comes away from the gasket on the engine easily. However, I cannot get the valve off of the "elbow" on the hose. The valve goes into the rubber elbow (there is no clamp on mine) and it is a 90* turn a couple inches above this to a hose that is covered in some sort of foam. I can take pictures if that would help.

Second, the gasket that is on the engine seems ok but I cannot get it off with my fingers. Should I pry it off with a flathead screwdriver or something? Do I really need to replace it? It also has some engine grime on it, which I wouldn't like to get into the engine... should I be worried about stuff like this?

Please understand I really only do my own oil changes, and can change tires and simple stuff. I fix Chimneys for a living and I am hesitant about screwing my truck up. I thought this was a simple undertaking.

My truck is in the driveway and I plugged the pcv valve back in (after wiping off some of the grime) the way I found it. I dont want to screw up the hose or anything, I just want it to slip out! I only have the new PCV valve part # EV238 which is a stock motorcraft part that comes with the new gasket. It appears to be the same one that is installed. The currently installed PCV does rattle when I shake it. Myself being a LAYMAN and just having done minor repairs over the years, the most major being brakepads and a starter on an old maxima, I am hesitant to get myself into a jam and not being able to back out of it. However, to the untrained eye, I would say that the PCV is not the original one (123k miles) but the hose and elbow, and engine gasket quite possibly could be. The rubber elbow on the hose has some SLIGHT alligatoring on one side, like it is a little old but it is very minor alligatoring.

JC

Let me know if pictures would help. I am looking to get this done while it is still daylight today!

there should be a small little clip on the elbow where it connects to the pcv valve. Push it towards the intake manifold and lift it up off the valve. Then turn the valve counter clockwise and it comes right out. Put the new valve in and push the hose back down on the valve.

You could warm it up with a heat gun or hair dryer..
