Have you checked the driveline angles? Are you careful not to overtighten the U-straps as to distort the needle bearing cups? Proper lubrication? Have you tried a different brand of U-joint? Perhaps use a genuine Spicer joint?
You are lubing them after installation correct?
The grease that comes in them isn't enough to run them, they need to be greased after they're in.
A 1000 pounds in the bed shouldn't make them wear that fast.
I had that problem on my Bronco driveshaft. Then I started paying attention that the U j-oint cap press fit in with extreme ease on one side of the double-cardan joint. It was the one that continued to fail. Swapped it out with another double-cardan joint and never had issues again. The tolerance was out ever so slightly.
