If you are a history buff, look up the Oatman incident from the 1850's and the life of Olive Oatman. The best book on that is called "The Blue Tattoo" by Margot Mifflin. It was actually Olive's brother that founded the town of Oatman, but it wasn't until much later that the town was born. The Oatman family story is amazing and goes to show how stupid some head strong idiot can be.
2 more fun mountain passes here in CO, Monarch Pass and Wolf Creek-they will definitely test your rig going up & back down!! OK, they're not on the interstate but they have great scenery!!
was descending down Mt. Washington, NH (1985). I was in a nearly new Buick Electra and was following an old truck - obviously with a low granny gear. I HAD to ride the breaks so as to not run him down.
Eventually I had to park -while the rotors smoked. Mr. Buick denied my claim and it cost me dearly.
There was one in West Virginia, can't remember the route, but it was a pretty good hill, still not on line with Bullhead-Kingman out west.
You might be thinking of the grade going into Wheeling WV, first time I went thru there was about 1:30 am pulling a 36 ft race trailer. Didn’t know what to expect. Didn’t like it …not even a little bit.
Another one is on old route 30 two lane, Breezewood PA>

I have towed up Monarch several times. Will be again towards the end of the month again this year. it is beautiful.
Burnt up an engine climbing the grade out of Needles coming west pulling a boat. Long grade that gets steeper near the top. Lost oil pressure near top but had another 1000 miles on warranty so continued to drive up over the climb until it thru a rod at Water Road, several miles later. Towed back to Needles and a warranty replacement engine.
