I can't for the life of me find what rpms the coolant fan should be turning when the temps start to climb. Anyone who knows what the max is I would appreciate the info.
It's totally variable on several different factors, there is no set A+B+C=D that we can really reference. One thing though, with no A/C the fan will start ramping up speed around 217 degrees. With A/C on the fan behavior is entertaining.
The only thing to make sure of is the EGR is plugged in and the fan harness is connected and intact.
Not really sure. I just added the scangauge II and put in the x gauge settings for the FSS. I keep getting high temps at the end of some long grades towing a 5th wheel. The last time I didn't have the gauges, but I did hear the fan but it didn't sound as loud as normal.
Just a bit paranoid after just replacing the FICM and HPOP. The EGR valve was checked and was a bit dirty, but the mech said he didn't think it was that bad. He had seen a lot worse.
I looked to make sure the wires were plugged back into it and the fan connector was plugged. Now that I have the gauges, I wanted to know what to look for and didn't know about where the neighborhood of max would be.
I believe you covered what I was looking for. I haven't towed since adding the scangauges, so don't have any good data on that yet, but I kinda wanted to know what to be looking for when I went up another pass towing.
I especially appreciate the table, that really gives me some data to expect.
