460 engine
I am thinking of purchasing a new 460 crate engine for my truck. I have a 77 f-250 with a 4 speed manual tranny. I am wondering if I can just drop a new 460 engine straight into the truck, or will it not fit. The previous engine was a 360.

It'll physically fit with little to no problems. The engine bay has plenty of room.
You have researched what is involved right? I mean, it's switching engine families so add motor mounts, a clutch, flywheel, trans, bellhousing, etc.
on the ta-do/to-buy list. Pretty sure ya gotta add an oil pan and pickup to that list too.

Plus power steering pump bracket and alternator brackets. It's not a short list. Also, a 460 crate motor will cost you some dough. If you find one to rebuild, again, more dough. Motor swaps aren't cheap. Trust me, I am doing it right now. With a c6 it was a lot 'easier' though.

I have a list of everything I need to build the engine and put it in, I just need to know will this engine attach straight to my tranny or will I have to replace that. I will also have to put in new engine mounts right?

Are you sure the previous engine was a 360? The last year for FEs was 1976. We know previous owners do all sorts of things so have you already verified it was in fact an FE?

Ya,the previous owner replaced the original 351 with a 1973 360 fe but I did research and the only fit difference between the two engines(460 and 360) are that the 460 is longer which I would assume means I have to move the engine mounts forward right?

you said you had a manual tranny,NP205 or 203 ?manual tranny will bolt up with 351m(manual truck bell housing),mated to your 460 ck out L&L web site Is your truck 4x4 or 2 wheel drive ,verify trans for us
