Oil Pump Wrong?
The oil pump doesn't look like it is square in the hole for the distributor. Looks like it is crooked or something.

Anyone ran into this before?

You have the correct oil pump for your M block?

There's only two bolts that hold the pump on, and it can only go on one way. Do you have the hex shaped drive rod lined up correctly? That little snap ring type deal goes to the top.

Sounds normal. Hex shaft will move side to side. I usually place a dab of Vaseline on it to center it when installing distributor.

It took a while but finally got it straightened out so it would go into the bottom of the distributor.
