Hubs acting up?

Hubs acting up?
I tried to use 4x4 last weekend and got stuck at the farm. The manual hubs wouldn't budge either. I tried a small pair of pliers on it but didnt want to break the plastic switch on the hubs. After getting the tractor to pull it out I put it on the lift and the front drive shaft spins while in 4x4but does not engage the hubs. While the x was in the air I got a better pair of pliers to turn the manual hubs to lock. It was really hard to turn but it did. Now the 4x4 worked when I selected it inside. I see in the manual every 60k the needle bearing needs to be greased. Also, read up on that so more than likely it has never been done. Do I need new hubs to fix this? Any help would be great. Um... I'd clean and re-grease them the ATF soak sounds messy...

Um... I'd clean and re-grease them the ATF soak sounds messy...

Just the dial part. You can clean and lube it all day but it has no effect on a sticking dial..............we're not talking grease here.
