advice for suggested maintenance

Hello everyone!

I have a question. I just bought a 2006 F150 FX4 supercrew truck with 80k miles. The truck was taken extremely good care of by the previous owner but I'm not sure what maintenance has been done on it such as tranny, diff, transfer case fluids ect. The truck drives great but this is my first truck. Any suggestions on maintenance I should plan to get done in the near future would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Also the truck was never used for towing anything and if you know estimate on costs, that would be helpful as well.

Thanks!

Welcome henduford,

I too just recently purchased a 2006 FX4, SCREW (apr 13). It had 84K on it. I ended up needing to do the sparkplugs right off the bat.
I was only getting 13.4 MPG and it also had a stutter off the line.
I ended up having to do a few more things and here are the prices:

custom floor mats - $189
spare keys (2), only came with one had to be coded by dealer - $160
Fuel filter - (every 30K miles required) - $10
R Rotors brakes (found them cracked???) - $100
Transmission pan change and fluid (allows quick fluid drain, look on forms for part#) - $100
Sparkplugs I had done at dealership ( 1 broke +$50) - $400
Flex braided brake lines - $110
Front rotor, brakes, calipers (cracked pads, seized calipers) - $376
Coils - ( T/S missing spark) - $210
O2 sensor - ( real problem causing bad engine misfire) - $65

New HU that has GPS, WiFi, 5 channel AMP, speakers, wires, SUB woofer, (800 Watts RMS) Extra wire for doing the BIG-3 as it is called. Sound padding. - $2,200.00
Custom interior lights - ( superbright LED.com) - $80

Overall I would say do the basic fluid changes and get a OBD2 reader for your cell phone.
On Amazon they go for $12- 30.00 well worth the price. It will allow you to see when stomping on the gas to get up to speed to enter the highway and a sparkplug misfires you'll know which one is doing it.

Other things people look for when doing basic repairs / troubleshooting is:
Fuel control Module
VCT solenoids, rubber boots (in case your #5 sparkplug and piston gives you problems)
Fuel Pump Driver Module - (part # Dorman 590-001) in case it goes out. Located above the spare tire on frame rail.
These are all just in case future items to watch out for.

Cleaning your MAF and throttle body right away could help with throttle control, and its a free thing to do.

Thanks for the help! Looks like I've got some work to do. Going to have to do it in steps. The truck costs enough in and of itself.
