I'm changing my transfer case and power steering fluid. Is any Mercon oil from Autozone ok or does it have to be Mercon SP? Some have said Dextron III will work too. Thanks for your help.

My '07 manual says to use Mercon in the Xfer case, and between my two Fords, anything that calls for Mercon I've been switching to Mercon V (not sure Mercon is even out there now). I just put V in my Expy's xfer case 2 days ago... That's what I would put in the F350's if it needed it tomorrow -- our Expy is an AWD so the xfer case is always on...
Not sure if I'm helping here or asking for validation from Josh and Cheezit
thank you. i could not remember the number but yes its xl-12.
i use the correct factory recomended fluids in my truck. what you opt to use is on you.
i gave the op the info he asked for while you suggested a possible undocument alternative that is not recomened by ford for use in the unit.

Says Mercon in my owner's manual every owner's manual for 6.0 truck.
You have Transfer Case Oil because Ford let the license expire for Mercon.
It's no coincidence the license expired with the debut of the 2008 MY Ford trucks and they call for the Transfer Case Oil.
