Hi, it's time to buy some new shocks for the truck. I'm a big fan of Bilstein, but they don't seem to make them for our trucks (wrong ends). Any suggestions/preferences?
I have a 1978 F250 4x4 supercab. I have airbag suspension in the rear and a Cummins under the hood, so it's pretty heavily loaded if that makes a difference. I believe the truck has a 3" lift. This is a daily driver so I'm not looking for any competition off-road stuff.
what ends do you need? stem top and eyelet bottom? Bilstein makes plenty of shocks, the 5100 is the best bang for the buck and way higher quality than any white body twin tube or KYB. i even ran the nice KYB monomax on a truck and was disappointed.
if you get get me extended and collapsed lengths, i can probably track down a part number with the right valving (i'm a dealer, but not registered to sell here yet). i see a few 5125 that should work for a dent, but i don't have a lifted truck to reference, just my f350.
Call up shockwarehouse.com ... they have a really good tech line.
I traced the #s on the Ranch 5000s on my lifted 73 4x4 and they cross over to a 4-Runner application. Using that info, they'll likely have spec'ed Bilsteins with the same mount but not the same valving for our application. However, it's not like these things ride smoothly anyway.
I have had good experiences on 3 different trucks with KYB. With that said, I would not hesitate to run the Bilstein 5100. From everything I have read, they are a superior shock.
I may be wrong, but all the Bilstein 5100s I've seen are eyelet top and bottom. Our trucks are threaded stud top and bottom. How are you guys able to use them?
