Turbo Clean- How Much Pitting??

Turbo apart and cleaned. The cast iron surface (turbine wheel side) that contacts the unison ring, has a lot of pitting, that the 3M pads won't remove. I would have to actually use emory cloth and remove metal to get them all. The side with the pins and vanes has cleaned up pretty good. The question is will these pitts really matter since there really isn't any way to hang up the unison ring?

Get it as smooth as you can and give it a LIGHT coat of antiseeze. You won't get all the pits out of the wheel and they will eventually collect more carbon because that's the nature of the beast. You're not going to hurt the housing using emery cloth just don't get too crazy. it doesn't have to be spotless.

The best thing you can do is work it hard, keep short in town trips to a minimum, and give it a good "blowing out" occasionally.

Got it to the point that there is no scale left, and smooth, just the pitting. Have high temp nickle anti-seize that I planned on using. My concern was if pitting would lead to quicker carbon build up. The truck is used to pull a 15K 5th wheel, so it gets a pretty good work out when it's driven.

How often does it pull the 5th wheel? Does it spend a lot of time sitting?

It varys. If we are on the road then it's driven as the daily driver. If we are at home, it might sit for a week or two.
