Hi I just got new rims and tires on my f150 2009 but I noticed that on the passenger side the tires stick out about 1.5 inch more than on the driverside how is that even possible?
yup, I asked the tire shop and they told me that all 4 boxes had the same part no.
so they should be the same and its just odd that it's only the passenger side but i'll go to the tire shop this saturday and find out i guess
Is it just the front, rear, or both front and rear that stick out so much? The body of any vehicle is not perfectly centered over the suspension but 1.5 inch difference in body clearance is way too much to be considered normal.
There is something you can do at home before going to the shop.
Use a tape measure to measure the wheel depth from brake rotor to the outside lip of rim. Use a straight rod or board to span across the wheel so you have a common perpendicular reference point on the outside lip of wheel (In other words, don't measure by eye). See if there is a significant difference from one wheel to the next.
Also verify all tire sizes are same. Slap a board on each side of tire and measure the width of tire. (Again, don't measure by eye.)
If those measurements don't reveal major differences then it's likely the body isn't centered over the wheels or the wheel alignment (caster) isn't same side-to-side.

Glad I saw this post. Thought I was losing it today. I was checking out my truck today and I thought that the passenger tires were sticking out further on the passenger side than on the drivers side. Not 1.5 inches, but noticeable i thought. I kept going back and forth looking at each side. Looked crazy. I thought I was just seeing things. Just going by the eye. Didn't take any measurements, but will do so tomorrow. Kinda dark out now. I only have 200 miles on the truck. Thanks.
It is actually just the rear passenger side , the tire shop guys were very confused too ,they measured the width of the 2 rear rims and put both rims on the floor and measured from the floor to where the rim normally touches the hub these measurements were the same , tires are the same too
Sounds like rear axle isn't centered under the body. Maybe loosen the bed body mounts and see how much you can move the bed over.
This is a common issue on old cars. Usually people will buy wheels with custom offset so the side that used to stick out is tucked in where it should be, and then use a wheel spacer on the other side to set the wheel out to look uniform with the body. Seems kind of silly you should have to do that with a new truck.
that's what i thought ,
but when i move the bed over then it might not be in line with the cab anymore
assuming that Ford makes sure that everything is properly lined up before leaving the factory
