Not that anyone really cares, but I finally got a picture of my current truck for my avatar, so I can get rid of the picture of the truck I already got rid of. I wanted to wait until I had the camper on the truck and the Bronco hooked up behind it so it shows what the truck is used for. And it includes my other Ford truck for when I post on the Bronco forum.
Yeah, I was a little embarassed by the '02 in my old avatar. It was an OK truck, but there are reasons I bought a '97 and sold the '02!
The '02 in my old avatar was an F-350 with a 7.3 PowerStroke. It had no trouble at all with the camper! My current '97 F-250 with a 460 does fine with it too.
I did have a '95 F-150 Super Cab when I bought the camper (the camper weighs about 1200 lbs). I put Firestone Ride-Rite air springs in the F-150 and put load range E tires on it (LT285-75R16) it handled pretty well. But I'd never recommend that anyone do what I did. The F-250 and F-350 are a lot more stable and probably safer with that load.
However, the F-150s 351W, E4OD, 3.55 gears and 33" tires worked great. I could pull overdrive at freeway speeds on the flats, and dropping to 3rd worked fine in hills or on 2-lanes. And that included towing a 3500 lb Jeep (before I upraded to a Bronco).
