Check this out....
We just got back from our summer vacation to Colorado. While we were in Montrose, CO, we took the time to tour Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. Incredible place with awesome views. We drove down the extremely steep and winding road to the bottom of the canyon. The slope was incredible. 16% grades or 8 degree angle. Loads of fun!!!

Yeah, we really enjoyed the Montrose & Ouray area. I didn't come across Monarch (US 50). We were in Durango and took CO 145 via Lizard Head Pass to Ridgeway then up to Montrose.
