Yellowstone trip!

Hi all, just getting ready to go on our vacation to Yellowstone Park. Leaving Friday morning. Other than Old Faithful, is there any other attractions/must see things in the Yellowstone park area? I haven't been there since I was about 8, so I'm sure a lot has changed! Hopefully I'll get some good pics to post once we get home

Me and family summer in Island Park, Idaho - I am currently here, which is about 1/2 hour from West Yellowstone. I love this place!!

If you are coming from Minnesota, you will most likely be come through Rapid City (which you will need to see the Black Hills and Mt. Rushmore), then through Wyoming via Cody? From Cody to the East Entrance to Yellowstone is one of the most beautiful roads in the country!

If you are coming throught Jackson Hole, Wyoming and the south entrance to Yellowstone, you will need to stop in Jackson Hole, see the sites, then also do Grand Teton National Park and see the Tetons, Jenni Lake, and all the Indian history, etc., etc.

There is so much to do and see. How long are you going to be here? Which direction are you coming into the park? And where are you staying?

My recommendation would be to come via I-94 until it meets I-90 in Billings, and then down to Red Lodge and over the Beartooth Highway on US 212; GORGEOUS route over the switchbacks. In the Park, I would recommend hitting Mammoth Hot Springs and Norris Geyser Basin for sure. Yellowstone Falls is always nice as well.

On the way home, I'd go east via Cody on US 14/16 until you hit I-90 at Sheridan and then east through South Dakota and the Black Hills area like blowhole mentioned.

If you head out the south entarance towards Jackson, also take some time and drive back to the east on 26 over Togwotee Pass to Brooks Lake, i worked there as a back country snowmobile guide two years ago, it is unbeleavible once you head back in there 5 miles! Here is a link that has live cams!

Have a safe trip!

Those are all excellent suggestions! Matter of fact, jdw1, I am going to try and hit up Brooks Lake this summer, haven't ever been there. Thanks for the idea!!

We've been up there a couple of times..

Geyser Basin is a very popular spot because of all the geothermal activity.

Your best chance of seeing a wolf is in Lamar Valley..

Bison are everywhere..

Yellowstone Falls/Artist's Point is fantastic..

Traveling to the Tetons and Jenny Lake is worth the trip..

They offer some great rafting trips out of Jackson Hole..
