PSD: chip cons?

Well boys I put my big boy pants on and moved up to the 7.3 Powerstroke. Had a few 351s that were nice but I just needed a bit more. I have looked on here a bit for chip pro/con lists and didn't come across much. All I read is huge power and economy gains for relatively cheap. I'm wondering that since I have an older truck ('96 250) with an E4OD if putting a programmer or chip in it would cause any issues. I had been searching for "the truck" for months and finally found my diamond in rough and want to tastefully enhance and customize without shortening the vehicles life. Please tell me if you guys know of any problems that could arise with installing a chip.

Thanks.

By the way I'm looking at Edge Products Evolution CS (Color Screen) 85100

i know its a bit different, but my dad has an 01 f250 with the 7.3, but hes got a 4r100, 4x4 and stock height with 33s. he has a chip on the economy tune and a like 3 or 3.4" straight pipe. doesnt smoke unless you get on it but then it hauls ***, and he usually gets 18mpg, but he has never actually floored it. he also has had no issues with the chip in almost 200k miles. like i said, its a bit different, but the general rule of it treats you like you treat it still applies

You do NOT want an EDGE with an AUTO.

Look into a TS based chip from BEANS, Swamps, PHP, or Gearhead Auto.

Also a DP tuner is a another Very good option.

The good things about a chip are ...
more power,
Faster warm up(with high idle position)
set tuning to YOUR needs

The bad....
More power, more parts
More power, you can brake your trans(and QUICK)
Resale. It can deter customers

those psd trucks suffered from the crushed turbo down pipes like the last two optional turbo idi engines did too.one of your first mods might want to be installing a real DP.
it would likely be my first mod fwiw.

That is kind of what I was thinking. I know the trans in the weakest link in my truck. My other 96 250 5.8 E4OD has 205k and is on its second motor and soon to be third trans. Would maybe getting a rebuild on the trans and adding some beef make it less likely to break with a chip?(transmissions are black magic to me) Im not dying to chip it or nothing but the possibility of getting MPGs in the 20s gets me torqued.
