Hello FTE, long time lurker, first time poster. I come looking for advice, tips, anything.
2000 Excursion V-10 4x4 A/T with 186k
Purchased at 150K
I've kept up with maintenance pretty well
10" Lift
37.5" BFG A/T
I had just finished running a few errands in the Excursion when I pulled up to a stop light. Light turns green and I give her some gas. She goes no where. All I can get is a low gurgle and a lot of shuddering in OD.
I pulled up on the curb and restarted the engine. Now I get a blinking OD light and a "Service engine soon".
Reverse still works great, 1st puts up a fight but eventually gets going and 2nd works pretty well.
I hope it's not a spent tranny.
My local shop isn't open on Sunday so I tried taking it down to AutoZone for a quick scan. Lo and behold my OBD port isn't working either. GREAT
After a few minutes I find the burnt fuse and replace it. All for nothing of course because the OBDII scanner isn't giving us any codes.
I'm taking it first thing in the morning tomorrow (07/15/2013) for a checkup. I'll fill you guys in on what happens. But until then can I get any recommendations or tips?
After a lot of fumbling around on my part it was finally discovered that it was a simple fuse. Fuse #24 (PCM) was burnt out. Over and fixed in under a minute once I got it to someone who knew what they were doing.
The first shop I took it to were quick to tell me it was a mechanical issue and I probably need a rebuild on the tranny.
Just wanted to follow up on this in case any one else comes up on this problem.
Good thing you brought it to a more competent shop the 2nd time, than the 1st. Tranny rebuild would have ran you some cash and wouldn't even fix the problem.
Alright, bringing this back to life because she went back down again. Driving home from work the other day and experienced sudden loss of power. I had a feeling it was the same problem, sure enough, replaced all the mini fuses and took her for a test drive. She worked well again until a block from home. Now fuse #19 pops every time. It pops once I turn the ignition switch to accessory, I dont even have to crank her up. If I do crank her up she gurgles for a few seconds then idles fine in Park. O/D is dead 1st gear will get her creeping and 2nd barely works. Gauges all seem to work, my O/D is flashing again and only reverse seems to work well. After reading around on here I pulled off my steering box cover to look for frayed wires but didn't find any. They all seem to be fine. Any other tips, tricks, or past experiences would be great.
