Once I was stuck in a no start situation after running out of fuel. Turned out to be the battery terminals on the passenger battery. I guess they burned holes inside of the terminal check this out on yours. I bought 2 new Costco batts and soldered the terminal holes shut haven't had 1 electrical prob since. Hope this helps
just wanted to say thanx guys for responding. Last time I looked fuel pressure from the schraeder valve it is getting more air. So once I get back from vacation I am going to replace all the rubber injector lines and try again ..
It could be sucking air between the lift pump and tank. To test, get a piece of fuel line and hook to the lift pump, then stick the other side in a can of fuel.
Your sending units could be leaking on your truck. My 93 i cant use the rear tank because it leaks so much. If you pull your filter off it should overflow the edges of the filter as soon as you start loosening it. If its not your getting air in. My rear tank would make my filter drop to half full. Therefore it would not start or took many many cranks for it to. I would try switching tanks, checking for worn out rusty lines on frame rail. Injector o-ring kits are like 30-35 on ebay. Some car part companies have them but idiots at counter can't look them up. My friend got a kit from Advance for his 6.9. i called a week later to get for mine and they said they couldnt get them
Digging this up to ask if you ever got this problem figured out? I'm in about the same boat with my dad's '87 F350 Turbo IDI. Have a thread about it already but wanted to ask, since it sounds very similar...
plug in the block heater, wait three hours, disconnect the glows, (by removing one of the large wires from the glow solenoid , use starting fluid and start the engine, you may find it easier if you remove air filter, and have some one turn it over, it will run, if it stops when you stop spraying its not getting fuel, check FFS, fuel lift pump, fuel tank pickups, if it should start and stay running, it may be a glow plug problem, starting fluid will not harm your engine, when used in this maner, the glows must be disconnected or damage or fire may result.
