Hey guys i just got an 02 7.3, it takes a few cranks to fire up, seems to idle just fine, on revs it sounds like a knock in the bottom end left side, ive searched the forums/net ect but im leaning toward rod/main bearing maybe rist pin? it dont get any louder the more you rev i keeps its pattern. Also its dumping oil i beleive from under the turbo. Question where do i get the o rings from is it ford only? its got a fuel leak left side (fuel pump?) its in the frame rail? Anybody close to me that knows these trucks care to come take a look i know nothing about the psd as i have been a gasser up until a few days ago. I have always worked on my on cars/trucks but feel lost with this one . Im in Ozark mo.
thanks
bob has all of the orings and even upgraded ones. DieselOrings
how old is the oil?
it may be a loss injector making the knock or a bad one.
i worked on one that the injector was 90% dead and knocked like the piston was loss, new injector better starts and no knock.
Its got 302k miles, it seems to run good i know when you mash it she rolls the black smoke. its an auction truck and i didnt give much for it, i think some kid owned it theres alot of kobbled up crap cut wires ect. As for fuel leak it is the fuel pump (under butt) thanks for the replies guys like i said first psd ive got alot to learn.
You can get them from the parts stores, just usually cost more and quite often they order them in. Ford will have them too if you have a dealer near you. Get Alliant o-rings if you can. They are proven and you won't have any issues.
So, you bought it from an auction. blowing black smoke could be a performance chip or tuner. either of those will also make the diesel knocking sound more prominent. The o-rings are not all that hard to replace. it just takes time with the room you have to work with.
best bet would be to find A member around your area to stop by and have a listen to it before you start throwing money at it..
Ive asked in the mo thread for any local help, id pay for their time. Its got i believe 5in exhaust no cat or muffler, the turbo looks pretty clean for what the rest of the engine looks like. Yea auction truck 4 door 2 wheel drive, gave 2500 for it.
Nice.. that's great. so even if you have to put some money in to it, you'll be ahead..
if it has an exhaust im sure there is more done to it. is there aftermarket gauges in the truck ?. let us know if the stock air box has been changed. we can start from there and work with you..
No gauges, theres a small vacuum line under the dash it goes up to a t ontop of the engine looks like it goes go ghe turbo maybe a boost gauge line? Stock air box i believe. I had to go out of town when i get back ill get some pics. These came factor garret turbo right?
Hopefully its injector issues, it wouldn't hurt to get a compression test done just to make sure all the pistons, rings and valves are good. I had a 7.3 once that had some problems and it turned out from the compression test number 5 cylinder was a dead hole with no compression, I never even tore that engine down just replaced it with a low mileage engine from a wrecked truck that has ran perfect for over 7 years. Never tried any tuning left it stock.
