Question Quality of tune-up parts

89 F250 Custom. In the process of giving it a tune-up. Is there a major difference between Motorcraft, Duralast, MSD and Duralast parts? This would be for cap, rotor, and spark plug wires. Don't know if this makes a difference, but the truck is rarely driven.

If those were my options, I'd stick with Motorcraft. I haven't had good luck with MSD ignition parts and the Autozone parts aren't a favorite, but only had experience with batteries, alternators, starters and brake pads. No complaints, but starter was "Gold" version, only lasted 2 or 3 years.

For items like the distributor cap and rotor it's best to stay with brass contacts - for multiple reasons. It may be a more expensive option, but most of the time they carry a lifetime warranty, and generally last a lot longer due to corrosion resistance.

For the plugs I'd stick with Motorcraft or Autolite - simple yet effective. Plug wires I'd just run some Belden 8mm wires. Great quality, lifetime warranty, and make any engine look cleaner. I wouldn't touch Duralast parts with a ten foot pole, but that's just me!

Motorcraft all the way. I may not be running Motorcraft personally, but there isn't much better than it.

I almost always go with Motorcraft. At least go with BWD.

Another vote against autozone/duralast. One use of their brake products will steer you elsewhere. Going to msd ignition parts currently, hopefully they are better than the "carquest" brand that came on it...
