oil pump going bad?
The concern is that the oil pressure guage does not show any pressure for about 5 seconds and then when the guage needle moves to a normal oil pressure reading the motor seems to smooth out,but still has an intermittent shake or shimmy when you watch the motor. It does this when it sits for a few hours. When I turn it on after sitting for a few minutes the oil pressure reads normal right away.
Could this be a sign of oil pump failure ? Or something more serious like the crankshaft bearings?
I use motorcraft 10w-40 and motorcraft FL1A filters.3000-4000 intervals.
Did FTE change the search feature on the web site. It does not seem to do a good search like it used to?
thanks Jim
I may be wrong on my diagnosis but I;m not convinced that you have an oil pump problem yet. To me it may be just a sending unit. If you want to know for sure hook up a manual gauge where the sending unit goes and see what happens.
If your pressure was that low I would think that you should hear some valvetrain noise and not feel a shake or shimmy.
