A Ford ESP or a dealer sold and backed warranty is transferable upon the time of re-sale or trade which in the opinion of the car industry increases "your" vehicle's value.
When I bought my 2010 Focus, I purchased a 72/72 bumper to bumper warranty from the dealer. It's administered by and backed by the dealer. I paid $1500 and rolled the cost into my payment. It carries a $100 deductible after the first 36/36 B2B expires.
With my daughter having the car away at college, I felt it would be easier to have some additional coverage if something breaks and i'm not there to handle it. The only hoop that must be jumped is we have to call my dealer for authorization of payment for work performed if we are not close by.
This is the first time t hat I've ever purchased a plan such as this so I'm pretty sure that when the car gets to 72/72 and I didn't use the warranty, I'll feel like I wasted my money.
I did not buy a warranty for my truck, I have 28K on it now and I'm still thinking.
If you are buying an extended warranty, just remember to negotiate the price for that too! They are a high profit item for dealerships. Last time I bought one I got them to come down $600. A good negotiator probably could of gotten more!

I look at purchasing extended warranty's like buying car insurance...you get it just in case something happens. I usually only buy warranties for vehicles....and not for anything else.
I purchased a "dealer backed" ESP when I bought my 09. I paid somewhere around $1,600 for a 5Yr/100K warranty. I have used it 3 times and have saved 3k total. In my opinion it is worth it. ymmv.
Other than the fact that it's not a Ford product, what's the problem with an aftermarket warranty if the Ford dealer is doing all of the service and documenting it?

A lot of the aftermarket companies go out of business. They start up, take in lots of money then shut it down. You are left high and dry.
Even though all this extended warranty mess does not give me confidence in a truck, I kind of think old Prince just might be right in his thinking. When I ever do buy me truck, I reckon I'll look into it.
Just to correct one misunderstanding, Ford does NOT require any certain length of payments when you finance through them to get the extra rebate. You can refinance within days if you want to, and you WILL NOT lose the rebate.
The dealer gets an extra incentive from Ford if you stay with the finance for 3 months, but that is between Ford and the dealer.
I personally talked to a Ford finance center here in the Dallas area and was given this information. Others have refinanced before making even the first payment and there are no penalties.
If extended warranties help you ease your mind, then go for it.
Just understand that in the long run, they will cost a lot of money and it's almost a given that the will be worth it - but only for the party selling them. That's especially true if you take good care of your ride.
I always skip them, and it has paid over the years.

You are correct. I paid my truck off even before receiving the paperwork from Ford credit, LOL, and I did not lose my rebate. I had called them a couple days after the truck purchase, received my account number over the phone, and went into the system online to pay off my truck.

This is true but if your dealer treated you fair and gave you a good deal you should wait the three months so that he gets the rebate. BTW nobody says that all payments have to be equal in size. For example if you borrow $20k make the first payment of $19500 then the last two at $500 each. You will have very low finance charges, and the dealer gets his rebate too.
No I don't work for Ford but everybody has to make a decent living.
I had asked my dealer - and was told to go ahead and pay it off as soon as I want to, they told me no rebate or incentive for them when I make 3 payments, so that's what I did. Who knows. I am sure they did not lose money either way.
