A 215 tire is smaller than a 235 and if the speedometer hasn't been corrected for that you will be going faster and farther than the odometer says, and that will make your mpg lower than it really is.

...isnt that the width and would have no effect on the speedo..?
Head down to Autozone and pick up 2 bottles of Chevrons Techron additive, fill up and run the truck. This additive really cleans things up and works wonders on whatever gas engine I've used it on.
It's also one of the things you do to Cristen your V10.
Yea, I drive 70 miles per day on average. Any extra mpg I can squeeze out of it helps immensely. I don't need a reality check. I've owned this truck for a long time. Just wanted to make sure it was normal.
Sorry if it offended anyone for asking a question.
I was wondering the samething I have 2001 f250 4x4 with 35's and 4.30 gears this seems to get 9 mpg city.I think my gas gauge is of because went to fill up,fuel light just came on and I could only get 21 gallons in the tank.
Quick reality check for V10 owners: Does your fuel economy suck? If yes, then it's normal.
Fer crissakes, its a 6.8L V-10 hauling around a CrewCab Dually! It's supposed to gulp fuel like it owns a refinery.
Agreed. I've got a 2001 E350 15 passenger (brick wall through the wind) and on a 2400+ mile trip in March averaged 13.5 mpg hauling 8 of us and all our stuff. I was actually surprised with that considering some of the wind we went through. Empty driving it home from New Mexico when I bought it the thing averaged 16.5 but I kept it at 60 mph almost the entire time. Hauling my RV trailer last weekend - that was a whole different ballgame at between 7-8 mpg
Tires are due on the beast so I am going to go back to 215/85's, get an alignment.
I'm thinking about changing to full synthetic fluids in the Motor, Transmission, and rear end. I'm thinking about adding a Sonnexx Tricumulator kit to the 4r100 transmission, and changing fluid out to synthetic (Amsoil?), Rear end was serviced, I am not really sure when, so I think I am going to swap that to synthetic as well. I have an open diff so no friction modifier needed. LOL
Not sure if that will help MPG's but I will sure feel better with all of this added to my truck.
Thanks for all the comments, I really appreciate it.
3.73 gears are not the best for the 2v v10 as it likes to rev, smaller tires will help. The v10s sweet spot seams to be at 2100rpm but with 3.73s that's going to fast to help with mpg. Lastly I don't think you offended any one there are a lot of people that have gone from a car to a big truck on hear and are shocked they don't get 25mpg lol, there are also the v10 haters (mostly diesel owners lol).

The rear end should ready have synthetic in it if the right fluid was used when it was changed.

I knew it before I got it.(checked out the site here.) I'm glad I got it,gobs of power when pulling the trailer. Also glad I only have to drive 10 miles round trip to work each day.
I get about 13.4 average city/highway with my F250 Crew Cab, SB, SRW, 3.73.LS. If I set the cruise at about 65 I can pull about 14.2 and 14 at 60. The best I have found in my truck is around 2100-2300 rpm in OD. When I run on the freeway I set the cruise at 82 and believe it or not I have pulled about 16.7 avg mpg on a long trip (hand calculated). My Lie-O-Meter seems to be pretty consistent and is only about .2-.4 mpg off. Also i'm running 275/75r16's.
