PCM Compatability Help Please
Much of what I have read states that any replacement (whether used or reman) should have the same part number. But if your donor is from a different year, then you cannot have the same part number, right? I mean the 2nd digit of the engineering number is the year, so that seems like a no brainer, right?
I have a 94 E350 with 460 & E4OD Trans - Original PCM is F4TF-12A650-YA
Donor is F3TF-12A650-JA.
I am being told that this came from a 93 version of my vehicle and that this is 100% compatible.
My internet searches on the donor PCM tell me it is for a 1993 E350 with 460 and E4OD Trans. Of course this search typically sends me to one of several reman sites where there is essentially no inventory available for a re-manufactured one for the 460 engine. But at least I can look up part numbers and pretend like I can actually buy one.
I guess I'm just nervous about this donor PCM and am looking for confirmation from someone more knowledgeable than I. I've not been able to find anything that specifically gives us a cross-year compatibility chart. Wouldn't that be nice!
Assuming there are no issues with the donor PCM, have I found a legit donor PCM?
