So my truck, 92 f250 4x4 with 35's and new inner and outer tie rods and drag link and aligned less then a month ago.
I was driving my truck yesterday and if I turn to the left if fells like it should with power steering, but if I turn to the right if feels like there is no power assist. it has the typical ford ps pump growl and there is a little slop in the steering gear but this was a sudden change without any cause that I can determine.
pump? box rebuild? from what I figure the pump isn't affected by turning direction and the design of the box shouldn't cause this because it is a worm gear not rack and pinion
It sorta sounds like a seal or pressure "ring" in the steering gear box has gone out on you.. The pump wouldn't make a difference, and hoses shouldn't matter either as far as not having power assist in one direction...
So with all that rambling out of the way, one vote for steering gear box....
It may be a worm gear and not a rack and pinion but it has to have the hydraulic pressure for the "power" part so if it has a leak on one side that's the side that don't work as well..
You can't get a rebuild kit for the box, that I know of. The reman ones you can get are hit or miss as far as failures go. There have been a couple threads where someone reccomended s particular one, red......something, maybe someone else remembers the name.
