Coolant all over the engine bay

Parked the truck tonight and noticed there was white stuff streaking down the front fenders, coming from the front of the hood. Popped the hood, and there's white **** everywhere. Eyes immediately went to degas bottle, to my surprise there's not hardly any residue around the bottle at all, but it's completely empty. I can hear a hissing sound, and it sounds like its coming from right in front of the powerstroke badge. This crap is all over the hood, but the passenger side intercooler tube is just covered in it. Right in front of the radiator where all the little stickers are and stuff is pretty damp. Not sure what the hell is going on since it doesn't seem it came from the degas, what am I looking at here? Radiator maybe?

Based on where you are describing the bulk of the residue I would guess radiator but without seeing it it's hard to say. The stock radiators are notorious for coming apart. Did you happen to notice if it overheated or got warmer than usual? How much coolant do you think was left? It's a little disconcerting to hear coolant was everywhere like that. Do you have any bullet proofing done?

OEM Blue cooler Hose don't drive until replaced. call Riff raff diesel for the new hose. Or radiator seal gave way check all coolent front lines under load.

Before you JUMP anyway you need to pressure test to see
where it blowing from and not throw parts at it.
The way our radiators are put together I would hazard a
guess and say the top seam may of gone. Bit you really
need to check and not toss money this way and that.
Put a little pressure on the system and see where it comes out
and replace that part and not anything that you don't need to.

Exactamundo. My top tank had a hairline crack that wouldn't open up until it got to almost full operating temperature. it was so fine that it looked like a mold seam but would spray like a fire hose after the truck was hot and then shut off.

Sorry for lack of info guys, was in a rush for bed haha. Truck is a 2005 with EGR delete, oil cooler, flush and coolant filter done within past 2 months, valve is plugged in.
From what I can tell, it doesn't seem to have overheated, didn't feel any warmer than usual around the engine bay but I don't have any gauges so I don't know for sure. Been wanting to get an insight for some time now but everything keeps ****ting out on me and I'm running out of money haha. How can I check for the pressure? Do I just need to fill up the degas with some distilled water and let it run in the driveway and see where it spews out from? Really hoping its the radiator, since I hear a loud hissing noise coming from right under the powerstroke badge on the fan shroud.

I'm not exactly sure where the orifice tube is on your truck but if you were running the AC the hissing could be Freon pressure bleeding down after you shut the truck off.

AFA the coolant leak goes it's really just down to detective work. Fill the system, screw the cap on, let it get hot and watch for a leak.

I wasn't running the AC at the time. Can I just fill with distilled water? Not sure if it makes any sense to buy good coolant just to spew it all out. Do I just let it idle in the drive way until it warms up and watch for a leak or what?

Do you have a small air compressor that you can use to pressure up the degas bottle to 15 psig? You can tee into a small vent line hose at the top of the degas bottle (use a pressure gauge and add air slowly).

edit - O reilley's has a great selection of fittings for plumbing up the hose/fittings/and valve. Not sure about their selection of pressure gauges - I know Harbor Freight carries a cheap gauge that will work.

Yes you can use distilled water. You can also drive it so it warms up faster. Mark's idea about pressuring the system with a compressor is actually a lot better if you have a compressor. Even one of those small tire pumps will work if you can plumb it in.

That's how I found my leak.
The fan sprayed coolant everywhere!
Truck had around 100,000 mi. if I remember
correctly.
If it is your radiator, just in time....

I do have a compressor, but I don't really feel confident enough with myself to start teeing into hoses and stuff haha. Ill start with adding distilled water and see where that gets me. Will 1 jug work or how many should I do?

Also, the way the pattern looks like on that passenger intercooler tube that's coked in this crud, it literally looks like it was shot on there with the fan if that makes any sense.

Pulled the EGR valve out of curiously during lunch, there's like one little spot in there that's a little damp, rest is dry. Kind of weird, and to make my day better I also dropped one of the 8mm bolts and can't find it.
Starting to think my heads are screwed, hopefully not. There's residue all over the fan and everything. The actual fan is kind of hard to turn, not sure of that's normal or not. Took some pictures trying to make a photo bucket during work and it's not working out.
