I ordered the one that was listed for my year. The one in my truck has a nylon DRIVEN speedometer gear at the end of it.
From what I can see on lmc's website and on ebay none of them have the nylonDRIVEN gear. Gear does not come with the cable, sold by itself.
1969 F100 240 I-6: There are TWO possible speedometer cables...differences based on what type of trans it has.
C5TZ-17260-N .. Speedometer Cable & Housing-64.80" long / Use with 3 speed manual (no overdrive), 4 speed manual.
C5TZ-17260-Y .. Speedometer Cable & Housing-70.80" long / Use with C4 A/T & 3 speed manual with overdrive.
If all you need is the nylon DRIVEN gear, it's available from Ford and a gazillion autoparts stores. Same 16 thru 21 tooth gears have been used for 53 years.
I have been fighting with my f^%^*%*^ speedometer cable for a week now and have tried the $8 kits and they just aren't cutting it so before I pull the trigger on a new one at MAC's is this the right one?
C5TZ-17260-Y Ford Pickup Truck Speedometer Cable Assembly - Manual Or Automatic Transmission $23.95 EACH
Also, my gear is a 19 tooth white only. I am trying to determine what my truck should have. It has an NP435 transmission mated to a 390.
Many thanks, Mark

Blazer, the speedometers on new cars are quite accurate.
Get the speedometer on the truck working. Make sure you know the number of teeth on the plastic gear. Get alongside somebody on a freeway in a new car and have them raise their hand when they lock onto 60 mph. Read your truck gauge. You then have a number to work with and you can change plastic gear to recalibrate.
Do you have a GPS or a friend with one? My portable Garmin GPS shows MPH and seems to be very accurate. Since the driven gears are so cheap and easy to change, I took a guess and got a 20 tooth gear. Expect I'll have to get another when I check the speedometer against the GPS.
Be sure you have the clip that holds the driven gear on the cable. They're cheap too -- think they are $2 at Dennis Carpenter. I don't know if its possible, without the clip, to lose the driven gear in the tail housing but that would be a PITA.
Also you can get an app if you have a smart phone that will tell you your speed.
My cluster doesn't work properly, so I use my phone as my speedometer. Readings are reliable once you hit a steady speed, not so much while accelerating.
There is another option to calibrate:
If you have a tach, know the rear end ratio and measure the diameter of a rear tire, you can do some math and get mph from rpm. You must have a stick trans and it must be in direct drive, not overdrive.
This will not work on automatic transmissions because of torque converter sllppage.
Lots of good ideas coming in here.

C5TZ-17260-Y Ford Pickup Truck Speedometer Cable Assembly-70.80" long - Manual Or Automatic Transmission $23.95 EACH It cannot be genuine Ford, because this cable is obsolete .. so it's a universal 'fitz-all."

My truck has 235/75/15 tires, is two wheel drive and according to the vin code of #17 for the axle it has 3.25 - Ford (3300-lb.) rear end. Any assistance would be appreciated as the problem appears to be the nylon gear as I have replaced the cable and tested the speedo head. Thanks, Mark

Hope I'm staying on topic here -
I'm sorta in the same boat as Mark. According to the vehicle numbers, I should have a 3.50 Rear End. But when I am driving 40MPH, I'm right alongside the wife who is going 55MPH. I also have the standard 235/75/15 tires.
My friend says he thinks somebody swapped the Rear End. There can't be that many of these gears to choose from. Do I need more teeth or less teeth on my speedo gear?
