Hey guys, I am looking for a way to add on an electric motor to my factory rear sliding window. If someone has done this or has some ideas the info would be appreciated! Sorry for posting here, if someone knows of a better thread please post link.
Also want to make rear windows electric keeping the mechanism and using something that attaches to the spline of the hand crank
I'm thinking you'd have to redo the whole apparatus. Think about how badly these windows twist and bind up if you only push from the extreme top or bottom. I might try retrofitting the center section of a newer model factory power slider and have the glass shop make some pieces to fill in what's left. But either way you're in for a big project.
All that said, I don't know anything about this project so someone may come up with a kit or something.

In the EARLY 80's there actually was a kit for this, and it's been brought up a few times before.
I'm WANTING to say it was for the Bigfoot trucks, or one of the conversion companies (Think Mark III, etc).
IIRC, it used a electric motor, etc from a Bronco?
I can't remember it all verbatim, just remember seeing a few part #'s tossed around.
they make a kit, its basically a whole new back window that is a power slider, comes in no tint, UV only, 50%, 25%, 15%, and 5% tint. its an easy install, I did it on my 04 350 and it took about 3 hours in the California desert sun. total cost was about $500 and was one of the best mods I have done to it.
I'm planning on one for my 92 in the coming weeks

Thanks for the replies, I made a new thread here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-cool-etc.html
as I am doing A LOT of upgrades and didnt want to be making a lot of threads. I am on a teenage budget and have access to a machine shop/majoring in Mechanical Engineering so I am going to try to fab something up for much less than the kit but that is a good plan b so thanks!
SideWinder, my truck is from a conversion company (centurion) so I am surprised they didnt do it with the amount that they did do to this truck and unfortunately they are now out of business.

I'm thinking I need to fab something that either pulls/pushes from the center or the extreme top & bottom, the center one sounds easier to do
Cable drive connected at top and bottom tracks. Pulls it open or closed. Would require some work, as you know, but that's the simplest solution I would think.
I would say just put a sector gear on the window and a pinion to drive it off the motor but that would be a pain cause the window would bind up... and it wouldn't be as easy to hide the mechanicals.
If you are wanting to have a power SLIDING rear window, there is a kit for this. It's made by C.R. Laurence and it's called the Power Slider.
If you are wanting to have a power ROLL DOWN rear window (like the one the Bigfoot Cruisers had), good luck with it. C.R. Laurence used to make one called the Power Lite, but you can't find those things anywhere (I've searched high and low over the last 3 years). I've even talked to several different people on how to make one and no body I've found can figure out a good way how to do it.
