Semi-Truck Horn

A buddy of mine owns a trucking company and he is giving me one of their Semi truck horns to hide under my hood... what do you think?

My 0.02 USD worth . . .

Gonna need an on-board compressor/air tank system (100 psi) to run it. then you'll need either a solenoid valve or a manual valve to control the air to the horn.

Could be fun.

Just my humble opinion.

Go for it. I have 4 horns behind my transfer case. I thought about mounting them to the underside of my hood but was worried bout the heat shortening the life of any gaskets. They're fine where they are, just when they get water in them they take a few seconds to clear out and start sounding.

They're the wanna-be train horns from hornblasters (which are made by Buell, and are exactly the same ones you can order from them), but I tuned them so they don't sound like they did stock. Still has a nice chord to it, just different from anyone else's.

I have a set of Klein horns with tank and compressor. I had them mounted on my F150, now mounting them on my F350. Generally I remove the spare tire and use that space for everything, then run a constant hot for the compressor (so the tank is always full) and push button for the horns themselves. I believe the dB level is little over 150.

This is a similar kit to mine: Train Horn Kit - Model HK7

That gives me an idea. I carry my spare in the bed so that space is available, and I could mount some air tanks there. Right now I have a single 7 gallon tank in the toolbox. Compressor is a York 210 driven by my engine and equipped with an aftercooler (copper pipe rated for the pressure it sees) so it can do continuous duty no problem, but the 7 gallon tank really don't have much overhead to run high CFM air tools.

Time to price out some tanks.

Great location for it, and keeps the water/dirt away for the most part.

I have my spare up underneath, but I mean the ford pickups have so much free space under neath, it shouldn't be too hard to fit a large tank up under there. I'm not sure tho...
Shoot me the link if you find any good deals on tanks man.

I have an old set of 6V horns that I'd like to put on. In my opinion....they're louder than truck horns. The problem is, they're too big. The only place besides the bed or toolbox would be a piece of metal sort of under the engine. Not sure what it is, but I think it could mount there just fine.

I havent pulled the trigger yet but I do plan on using semi horns my self on my truck (trying to find a place to source the parts is hard here as I want to buy either local only or from another/fellow FTE member only) but I do have planned to do a constant drive system similar to the semis and the air tank (planing on a 12 gal tank) I am planing to mount on the frame just under the bed where my not so good (junky) "air" horns are now, then some how run the air line up through the cab to the roof, yes I am putting in a 200PSI blow off valve to keep the pressure where it should be, figured I would throw that in (check my project thread for pics of where my horns are, should be about page 8 or 9 I think...), hope it helps
